Description

Ak-Sai Canyon is one of the most spectacular in the country. It is reminiscent of the Grand Canyon in the USA, but much more detailed with many veins through dried-up river courses. The contrast between the red sandstone and the high snow-capped mountains in the background is breathtaking

Photography Tips

Use your tele lens for a more minimalistic shot. Shot during sunrise / sunset for the shadow in between the shapes.

Travel Information

Marked road signs lead from the main road into the dry riverbed through the canyon to the edge of Issyk-Kul Lake. You should drive with a 4x4 car and let the air pressure out of the tires in order to drive over the sometimes very soft sandy ground without any problems. From there you can hike easily to the panoramic viewpoint in around 30 minutes. It’s a gravel road up and down. If you want to go in the ridge walk make sure you are a good hiker without any issues of small narrow and steep path.
